Why a carved surface, not a printed one: the pattern is physical ridges and valleys, and that height difference is the point. As a shoe crosses the mat, the sole drags over the high lines and grit, sand, grass and mud pull loose. The carved valleys hold that debris below the walking surface, so it stays on the mat instead of being kicked back onto your floor.

Low profile on purpose: seven millimetres, 0.28 inches. Doors clear it without jamming, bunching or curling a corner into a trip edge.

It stays put: a textured TPE layer covers the whole underside. It grips tile, hardwood, vinyl plank and sealed concrete, with no adhesive and no residue.

About the smell: this one is polypropylene over TPE, not PVC or recycled tire rubber. Unroll it and give it a day or two of air.

Care: vacuum it, shake it out, or hose it down and lay it flat to air dry. It is not machine washable, and no dryer, iron or steamer — heat deforms the TPE backing and that damage is not reversible.
